MISSION: To demand that our leaders provide a livable world for our children and ourselves to the same.
Peaceful Uprising was formed to train, support and defend those who engage in nonviolent direct action to protect our future from climate change.
DIRE SITUATION:
We must end fossil fuels or they will end us, in multi-dimensional ways: geopolitical instability, energy depletion, climate change. Fossil fuels are at the heart of more of the world's ills than any other factor. The acceleration of greenhouse gases causes the most immanent and overwhelming threat to our livable world – catastrophically disrupting ecosystems by overheating the planet and ending life as we know it. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has lagged in grasping the true extent of the situation as it unfolds – escalating CO2 levels and climate-related changes are happening faster than anticipated. In order to stave off catastrophic climate change, we must bring atmospheric CO2 levels down to 350 ppm. To do this, we must turn around the rising CO2 trajectory immediately, and end fossil fuel use by mid-century. This will take unprecedented international cooperation. The time of bickering and stonewalling must end. We must deal with this now or never, with truly radical action and heroic leadership, or it will be too late to prevent runaway climate change.
America is in the best position to lead the world in innovating and implementing a renewable, sustainable energy infrastructure. Will our dire economic situation enable or imperil these efforts? We face dual crises, each requiring bold efforts. To address both, we must funnel economic stimulus into large, sustained investments in clean energy technologies, creating millions of new jobs and renewing our nation, in an all-out mobilization. High levels of public investment will spur private investment, and create more favorable market conditions for the deployment of the green economy. We must devote as much economic capacity as is necessary, as quickly as possible, to this climate emergency. The feasibility of rapid transitions has historical precedent. The Bush government blockaded efforts to address climate change, but under President Obama, the possibility has opened up of overcoming the stranglehold of the powerful fossil fuel lobby. But it likely won't happen without intense grassroots pressure calling for a green revolution now. Read on--->
